How to Give Your Squarespace Website a Spring Clean
Just like your home benefits from a good spring clean, your online platform deserves the same attention. Those digital cobwebs can pile up when you're busy running your creative business! Let's walk through some simple ways to freshen up your Squarespace site and make sure it's working as hard as you are.
Check for Broken Links
Nothing says "we're closed" quite like a 404 error. Broken links can frustrate visitors and affect how professional your digital space feels.
Take 15 minutes to:
- Click through your main navigation menu
- Test any buttons on your homepage
- Check your footer links
- Verify any resource links or downloads you offer
For a more thorough check, try using tools like Broken Link Checker or Dead Link Checker to automatically scan your entire site.
Review Your Site Structure
While you're in spring cleaning mode, it's also the perfect time to:
- Tidy up your website pages (both those in the main navigation and any that aren't linked)
- Review your header menu structure – does it still reflect your priorities?
- Update your footer links to include any new services or relevant resources
- Consider whether your site structure makes sense for how clients use your site now
A clear, intuitive navigation helps visitors find exactly what they're looking for—making them more likely to stick around and get in touch.
Test Your Contact Forms and Newsletter Sign-ups
Your forms are the primary way potential clients connect with you. Testing them monthly ensures no valuable opportunities are lost due to technical issues. A simple check takes just minutes but prevents missed connections that could otherwise disappear without you ever knowing they existed.
Make it a priority to:
- Submit a test message through each contact form
- Sign up to your own newsletter
- Check that confirmation emails are being sent
These connection points are how your audience becomes your community—they're worth keeping in perfect working order.
Update Your Content to Reflect Your Current Work
We're all evolving in our businesses, but sometimes, our websites get left behind. Does your content still represent who you are and what you offer today?
Consider reviewing:
- Your About page (is your story up to date?)
- Service descriptions and pricing
- Portfolio pieces or case studies (are you showing your best recent work?)
- Client testimonials (could you add some fresh voices?)
Remember, your website should be the perfect digital reflection of who you are right now—not who you were when you launched your website.
SEO Check-up with SEO Space

These checks keep your site technically sound and help maintain your visibility in search results.
Hide Pages That Shouldn't Be Public
Don't forget to check which pages are visible to search engines. Certain pages—such as your mobile links page, 404 error page, or website policy pages—generally shouldn't appear in Google search results. In Squarespace, you can easily manage this by going to each page's settings and checking Hide Page from Search Results for any pages you'd prefer to keep out of search engines. Page Settings > SEO > Hide Page from Search Results.
You can also Disable Pages that you'd like to be completely hidden. This is useful for pages that are in development or archived pages that are no longer relevant. Page Settings > General > Enable Page.
Small tweaks here can make a big difference in how easily new clients find you through search engines.
