How I got started as a freelance web designer
"When people ask me how I became a web designer, they're often surprised to learn I didn't start out in the digital world at all. My path has been anything but linear—and honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way.
In 2015, I made what felt like a massive leap, leaving my job at the BBC to pursue something completely different. I'd been feeling that creative itch that couldn't quite be scratched within the structure of a large organisation, and I knew I needed a change.
What I value most about being freelance is how my business has allowed me freedom to navigate life's ups and downs. From fertility troubles, to navigating the early baby years, to covid and a sick parent - my business has given me the freedom to work around life and not the other way around. This flexibility is something I never had in the corporate world, and it's become one of the most precious aspects of the path I've chosen."
